My Final Semester Approaches
January 17, 2011
Tomorrow I will begin my final semester of school. For the last two and a half years I have been attending San Jose State University, earning my BA in Graphic Design (and also picking up a minor in Art History along the way). Before that, I attended College of the Redwoods, a community college where I got all of my general education out of the way. Last fall, I completed all my requirements for my degree. However, I was surprised at the beginning of my semester to learn that I still had seven upper-division units I needed to complete in order to graduate.
This revelation was frustrating, for I had already set my sights on graduating in 2010. My parents, who were paying for my schooling, also were frustrated. Through much research and wrangling, my parents and I found a workable solution: instead of taking two or three random classes at SJSU in the spring and paying a large sum of money to live on campus for one more semester, I would return home and live with my parents and attend the local university, Humboldt State, as an Open University student. I would take two upper division classes (it does not matter what kind of class they were, as long as they were upper division), and then transfer the classes to SJSU. So that’s what I am doing. My Graphic Design degree is so close, but still not quite there. Since this semester is going to be much lighter in workload, I’m also dedicated some of my time to job searching and expanding my portfolio. I’m working on a few personal projects at the moment, and I’ve also starting to fine-tune individual cover letters.
I’m sure this semester will prove to be just as interesting as my previous semesters. I’m ready for the challenge!
